Hi, I've been looking into my family history, for about nine years. Most of it has been done with register transcriptions and census CDs that I have bought, the internet and a few visits to record offices and the FRC. I have not yet ventured to TNA. I think by the time I got there it would be almost closing time. I think if I ever have a burning need for some info and that's the only place to get it I'll need to find a hotel within easy distance!

I really enjoy the research involved and although I don't have anyone really interesting (ag labs, basket makers, carpenters, publicans etc) and no skeletons (only babies born out of wedlock or soon after the marriage), I still find it totally absorbing .

I've been researching (perhaps foolishly) all the lines that I have encountered with varying degrees of success. Below are some of the names and the areas they resided.

CARRADUS (and variants) - they seemed to wander until they settled in Westmorland about 1720
FIRTH - from the West Riding of Yorkshire in the late 17th century, to Lancashire in 1882
HUMPHREYS (and variants) - my least successful line - great grandmother was married in 1883 in Southport, and was born in Wales, but I'm not 100% convinced I have her correct birth certificate
JOHNSON (paternal side) - Wakefield Yorkshire from 1808 onwards
JOHNSON (maternal side) - Cartmel area in Lancashire from 1800
LOGAN - Whitehaven in Cumberland from 1820c but ggg grandfather (wife unknown) came from Ireland (one census says Londonderry)
RIMMER - always seemed to live in North Meols (now known as Southport) Lancashire
WILLACY - from Kirkham in mid 1700s

I'm currently preparing for a visit to Preston CRO and am hoping to fill in some gaps in my knowledge.

Thanks for the welcome.

To Sam Gibbons - no, sorry I don't have any Meggison connections in my tree.

Have you had a look at http://www.ritter.demon.co.uk/Genealogy

There were no Meggisons on there but there may be a connection to any other Carradus names you have.

Hi Degan,
Oh well, it was worth a try, the name sort of jumped out at me.

Hi there just wondering about the Willacy family of Kirkham. I am tracing my family history, and they go back to Lancashire. Any information would be great.

Hi
I am Chairman of The Rimmer FHS and willing to do look-ups among the mass of Rimmerobelia that I have. I believe that the surname Rimmer (from Scandinavian beginnings) originated on the West Lancashire coastline and looking for a Rimmer in North Meols is a bit like the needle in the ahystack job:confused
Let me know if I can help with your Rimmers?

Hi to Toni F and Seacoprimmer

I have only just noticed the reply from you Toni F and apoligise that I have not answered before. My excuse is that I was away in Preston and Southport, then had a small op on my foot, then we had a new addition to the family (a great neice), then a death and a funeral which needed another trip north, (not the new baby I hasten to add)and I have not looked properly at the forum for a while. I've just been skimming to reduce the sheer numbers of postings. I've only just realised that a tick gets added to a thread that I've contributed to. Duh!

I shall put replies to you both in the Lancs section of the forum (probably after dinner).
