I'm trying to find a 'simple' example of maps that show townships in both counties in 19th Century (1800 -1900). Particularly interested in coalmining towns. Any suggestions where I can acquire by purchase, stealth or other means?

Have you looked at the maps that Parish Chest have to offer, there are several different stands offering maps from different periods.
