Hi
My GGGG Grandfather was Henry CLARKE who married Nanny TAYLOR - 09 Mar 1840 in St Just, I have no further information on them other then: they had a son named Henry Taylor CLARKE: B 04 Jan 1842 in Churchtown, St Just, Cornwall, U.K. On Henry JNR'S birth certificate, Henry SNR is listed as a miner. At some point in the early 1860's Henry Taylor CLARKE (son) came to South Australia before settling in NSW.
I can find no records here for Henry and Nanny and also cannot find any reference to a death, for at least Nanny (as the name is easier to trace) in Cornwall. I use Ancestry and The Genealogist for my research here in Australia. I must admit that both sites can contradict each other with omissions and errors. Are there better resources and can anyone look into the names in Cornwall.
Thanks
Brad

Have you had a look at the website for West Penwith? There are several Parishes that make up the peninsular and it's possible that they may be buried in a neighbouring Parish.
Incidentally St Just & Penzance are seperate Parishes.
Nanny may well just have been her pet name, have you checked under Ann or Hannah?
Genuki gives a good idea of what's available & also the link to the West Penwith site

I have ancestors in West Penwith & I must say that the area has a brilliant selection of resources available to the researcher.

Hi Sue
That's great, very interesting findings. That is certainly Nanny Clarke in Devon. What are your thoughts on Henry being in the USA?
Cheers

I think that there's a strong possibility, I myself had relatives from the St Cleer area head off to the States at that time, others moved to other mining areas within the UK.
The mines in the Liskeard area were becoming worked out & jobs in the area were few & far between.
It's not to say that they stayed in the USA, although it's possible that Nanny did go across to join him, it's equally possible that Henry came back to England before he died, plenty of others did just that.

I had a look through Deaths for Nanny CLARK from 1871 to 1903 and found nothing in the UK. I am going to try CLARKE tonight and see whats there. I am yet to get the marriage cert but it is listed, and she used NANNY CLARK. I am yet to try South Australia just in case he followed his son out, but SA searches are like extracting teeth from a hungry lion, in fact the lion is easier.
Do you know any sites for US shipping etc?
Where did you find the shipping info that you gave me on Henry?
Thanks
Brad

I found the US Census info on A******y. I couldn't find them on any ship manifests. I also looked for Nanny but couldn't find any record of her under that name. Of course she may just have travelled as Mrs Clarke just to make things interesting!
