I have a Marriage record for my G /Grandmother both her mother and my G Grandfather's mother are down as ' blank' could there be a different record on the actual certificate or do I take it that they were either ill or dead.Sorry to be rather stupid about this but I just don't know how accurate a marriage 'record' is.Thanks Eliza.

Which country, please ?

An English marriage registration will normally only list the Groom & Bride's fathers. Mothers will not be listed, (although may happen to appear, because they acted as witnesses.)

What exactly do you mean by 'record'.

Sorry Chris it is a marriage record obtained from the West Galway FHS site as I may have said I just don't know how exact these 'records' are Eliza

Hi again,

You've posted this under

Certificates - Births Deaths & Marriages in the UK - Marriage Certificates

So you are likely to get an answer that relates to the UK, particularly if your question makes no reference to anywhere else.

I've no knowledge of Irish registration procedures, but they are quite likely to differ from those in the UK.

Best wishes,

Alan
