|help| As there are a few aussies here I thought I might give this a shot......

I am researching my husbands family, the Johnson's who are from Yorkshire, England. We already knew of one Johnson daughter coming to Australia, Sydney, but this week I find that her sister also came here, but to Queensland.
I don't know when she came out here, but I cannot find her between 1881 & 1901. In 1901 she is back with her father & brothers with 2 children who were born in Queensland, Australia.
She married a Taylor, I don't know whether it was in England or Australia.
I have tried Quensland BDM but no luck there.
Is there somewhere else I can look to try & find what, where & why?

My husband has no family here anymore & wouldn't it be wonderful if we found some who were here all the time.

BTW this site is great, I have learnt quite a lot over the few days I have been a member. I am also a member of a Liverpool forum & they are wonderful too!

Some forenames would have been handy :D

I see a marriage in 1889 in the Qld BDMs between James Taylor and a Jane Maude Johnston. They were not that fussy about spelling of surnames those days.

I only see one child registered in Qld to this couple - James Robert - 4 May 1890, in the Brisbane area (cd goes to 1914) If this is them, then they might not have bothered with registering the other child since they were leaving.

Thanks, but as I said I have trowled through the Queensland BDM & have found nothing.

I am looking for Ann E Johnson, her children were Arthur L Taylor born approx.1896 & Lillian A Taylor born approx.1900.

You're right, sometimes names get lost in translation & I have tried so many different variations I ran out of options. My guess is they probably weren't registered, births or marriage. Maybe they were in a remote area.

What I'm hoping is that someone knows of some other way of tracking this family, maybe someone has these names in their tree. That's what I am hoping anyway.......

Thanks again

Lilian Ada Taylor JOHNSON, born 19 June 1899 Brisbane area

mother - Annie Elizabeth JOHNSON

Thanks Christine, no wonder I didn't find them, I was looking for Taylor! That's their name in the 1901 census.
Thank You so much! |hug|
