am researching all DUCROW's especially from Liverpool area. particular interest in John who was sent to Van Diemans Land in 1822 aboard the Phoenix. He was about 21 at the time of arrival and died in 1835 having had 1 son. I have most of the Aussies desc but am trying to find his english roots. He was listed as being a fisherman, native place Liverpool. Any Ideas for some one down under with not much cash to spare.|book2|

Hi Lucky duck,
and welcome from another Aussie, (but born and bred in the UK.)
I was pretty sure Ducrow sounded like a French Huguenot name, and a quick look on IGI Family search seems to confirm this. The name is mainly found in the East End of London, or in Kent, but there were some Ducrow families in Ireland in the 1700's, and if your lot ended up in Liverpool, I suspect thats where they came from.
still looking...

I can only find two entries for Ducrow's in Liverpool, I think its such an uncommon name, they 're probably related. You may already have them...
25 Jan 1821 Thomas Duckrow m Sarah Roberts St Peter Church St, Liverpool.
28 Feb 1829 John Ducrow m Eleanor Minter St Nicholas, Liverpool.
I'll try and find something else tomorrow. I'd better go to bed now, or I might turn into a pumpkin!

Well, I can't help myself, I'm still up.
I had a few credits left on familyhistoryonline, so I looked for Liverpool Ducrow's. The only one I found was the same Thomas Duckrow marrying Sarah Roberts in 1821. However, it does give a few more details.. the marriage was by banns, they were both "of parish Liverpool", Sarah was a spinster and Thomas was a FISHERMAN! Has to be the same family I think, don't you? I think he was probably a brother.
night night!
