Hi,
I have searched and searched then searched some more, looking for ALRENA MAUNDER.
The last mention I can find is the 1901 when she was living at home with her parents John and Jemima.
I have her birth certificate for 4th. January 1893 at Thorn Cottage, St. Cleer, and her name Alrena is very clear.
Can anyone help or advise me on where to look. I've looked through marriage and deaths in BMDs, and also in emigration lists (her brother sailed to New York in 1902 but died the same year ), but can find no trace.
Ken.

Had a look round the BMDs but couldn't find an Alrena.
There is one possibility which stood out from the rest to my eyes -

Sept qtr 1912

Irena Maunder and Richard E Ward marriage at Tavistock
5b 759

The GRO index quite clearly says Irena, but that is just another transcription in itself.

It could be a mis-transcription perhaps. Irena is not a name I have come across before and it is possible that the lower case L looked like an upper case I.
I would be tempted to investigate that if this was one of mine and it was a brick wall which I was trying to deal with.
A copy of the marriage certificate would list the information you would need to confirm or reject her.

I saw that one too, but there is an Irena/Irina born in the Tavistock area, 1886, could be this lady marrying. She is on the census, and her birth on FreeBMD is transcribed as Irma but the image does say Irina.

I had seen the Irena one myself ,but the birth date of 1886 is 7 years too early. As I say I do have her birth certificate, and the 1901 census also names her as Alrena.
It simply looks as though I'll have to wait for the 1911 census and look at that along with hundreds of other things I want to know. When it comes on line I bet it blows up.

It may not help with the search for Alrena but were you aware that the burials in St Cleer General Cemetery are now on line?

And possibly the Mary Elizabeth aged 25 looks to be one as well.

The age fits for this to be John

Crow's nest is a tiny hamlet, just up the road from St Cleer Village. I used to cycle through there a lot as a child (not that it took long).

I have seen the "Dissenter's" burial site, in fact my son's brother in law is down in Cornwall this week on holiday (?) but with distinct orders to find and take photographs of all / any Maunder headstones. I knew about John and Mary Elizabeth and have the certificates.
I had no idea at all about Elfreda so am over the moon with excitement with that news, so I will be sending for that certificate.
My next "poser" is John's second wife Jemima Maunder ( b. Henwood 27/9/1848 in St. Neot. married 20/1/1876 - have certs.) in the 1901 census she was named as Jamima. As yet I cannot find a death.

Ken, you're not alone. My gg-nan Mary Wilton (nee Doney) has also disappeared without trace in the St Neot/St Cleer area. I'm convinced there's something akin to the Bermuda triangle up on those Moors!

Some of the family are buried at St Cleer, some in St Neot, some at Trenant Bible Christian Cemetery - Mary isn't to be found in any of them.
