Medal Rolls Index Cards

Hi

can anyone please give me some interpretation of the info I can see on these cards, ie under the heading medal there are Victory, British & Star. Also, what does Theatre of War refer to? Is it the country where the soldier was in battle at the time of the medal being earned?

The medal cards on TNA's web-site come with a guide, click here (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp) to have a browse; it explains some of the codes that appear on a card.

Theatre of war (first served in) shows the place where your chap was posted which qualified him for receiving the medal(s).
