Trying to trace my g.g.grandfather's family.
The only details I have are: William WADE b 1827(c) in Wales.
He came to Australia and married Mary Barden in 1851 in South Australia.

Would appreciate any help.
Thanks Janice

Hello Janice,

There is no William WADE of about the right age living in Wales shown in the 1841 census. A man of that name born in Radnorshire crops up in later censuses, but that's after your William was in Australia. Presumably your man stayed in Oz?

There are any number of potential candidates in the 1841 England census. A lot can be ruled out if you are sure he was born in Wales. I noticed a William WADE aged 15 (rounded age) in the General Penitentiary in the district of St John the Evangelist, Middlesex (HO7 / 737 /21 / folio 27 page 8). He is described as a 'Prisoner, presser', the latter being his trade before gaol. Was your William a convict and could this be the man? All the 1841 records say about place of birth is that he was born outside Middlesex.

It's all a bit hit and miss, I'm afraid. If you want to use church records to find out about his family, you'll need more on the place of birth - at least a county, preferably a parish.

Good luck!

John

Thanks for you reply and info John.
I knew this was a long shot with my sketchy details but you have given me something to work on. I will try and get his death cert. details from Sth Australia anf go from there.
