I felt I should start a new thread here, rather than hijack another. I have not yet purchased the NBI 2, but I wonder if some kind soul who does have access could put me out of my misery and tell me if there are any HARDING burials in the period covered by the Pickering Quaker Meeting 1813-1837.
I am on the verge of cracking my Marian Harding problem now, but I just need this one last bit of help to exclude the 'mythical' John Harding, confectioner who is languishing and fading rapidly in my tree. Also, the burial of a Susannah HARDING in Malton 1813-1837 (age 0-24) would also be of huge help to me, as wouold the burial of Mary or Mary Ann HARDING 1833-1837 (age 0-4)
Thanks in advance. When I get to the other side, I'm heading straight for this great-grandmother and I will have a lot of questions for her, I can tell you! ;)

Is the data you're looking for not available online?
I wouldn't recommend buying the NBI - it's rotten value for money.

Hi Peter,
No - the data is not online. I wouldn't be on the edge of apoplexy with my Hardings if it were :D
Interesting to read your comment about the NBI. I have the first edition, and certainly Cheshire for my period in that edition is poor indeed, but I was hoping the new edition would be better. I do agree with you that it seems a bit hefty at almost £50, but I may well stick out my neck and buy it soon, if only for the parishes at a distance. I have heaps of family in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire as well as North Yorkshire, so that is why I was going to invest in it really, just to save travelling. I would then only need to travel to check out a reference if it was there in the first place. But I know it's a hit and miss affair.
Not to worry. I know that Leeds and Hull University libraries hold the Quaker records for Pickering and Malton, and I can always go to Northallerton to search Malton's CofE burials. Knowing my luck with my Hardings, they won't be there in any case! The Quaker connection is just another stab in the dark, really.

Are they covered by the FFHS familyhistory online site? I think they have the NBI entries as pay per view. Or maybe the non-conformist Parish Register site?

That is precisely what I was thinking of but was frightened to mention in case I got a slap on the wrist ;)

I didn't add the link - but should be easy to find. The second site is affiliated to the Public Record Office - but I'm not sure how many burials are covered.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I have tried the FFHS and there are no Hardings in their North Riding database. I did check out what was available online for the Non-Conformists, and one of the sites did have a William Harding of Pickering in the 1780s in their Quaker Meeting files, but that - at this point in time - is just a little too early for my purposes. I do have whom I believe is 'my' William Harding on the 1841 and 1851 censuses (the latter has him as 'Hardy') but he was definitely a C of E man.
But I shall press on undaunted.....
ETA: I really don't know what's wrong with me today! I have just been back to the FFHS and of course they have Hardings - I was looking in the wrong part of the Index. Will let you know how I get on! In future - please ignore me....

If the information is not on the FFHS site then you are unlikely to find it on the NBI disk.

Yes - thanks, Bo. I have just paid a quick £5 to find the answer to the question I posed in my opening post. As far as the Malton burials for 1813-1837 go, neither of my girls appear, so I'm at least back on course for Plan A.
Thanks for all your help everyone. Sorry to be a nuisance.
