I'm writing web page tributes to the men listed on Scotter War Memorial.
Of the 21 men who died in the 2 World Wars, I'm still trying to trace the familes of 3 men from the Great War.
They were:-
19484 Private Arthur Clayton, 7th Bn, Royal West Kents (transfered to 865th Labour Corps). 1884 born Scotton. 1901 father publican at the White Swan in Scotter. Arthur married Gertie Hanson and lived at Carlton-in-Lindrick. They had a son Robert R. born 1915. Arthur also on Carlton War Memorial
6198 Private Walter Sleight, 1st Bn, Lincolnshires. 1884 born Scotton. 1901 living with father William and brother Amos in Scotter. That year they moved somewhere in the 'Lincoln district". 1902 William died. 1907 Amos married Beatrice Bennett-at least 2 kids were Stanley (1912) and Christine (1914). Walter was in the Army by 1908.
15294 Private Sidney Johnson, 1st Bn, Lincolnshires. 1895 born North Somercotes. 1901 living in Skidbrooke with parents George (a shoemaker) and Mary, brothers Walter, Ernest and Albert. Sidney came to live and have business in Scotter. Also on North Somercotes War Memorial.
I'm also still looking for a picture of these 2 men whose families seem to have died out:-
Great War
203395 Private Herbert Eminson, 1st/5th Bn., Sherwood Forresters
World War 2
P/JX 154364 Leading Signalman Ronald Leeke, Royal Navy, HM Submarine Urge
If you can help on any of the above, or any of the 80 men also listed who served in and survived the Great War, please get in touch.
Thanks
