Hi all,
As you can see my name log on is Delphinus (its a star, that means dolphin).
I live in Devon 12 miles east of Plymouth, with Dartmoor just down the road, and the sea under 10 miles away so I have the best of both worlds.
I have been researching my father's line for about 2 years. I am looking for
Ball, Blackwell, Corkill, Marshall, Newsham, Pryor, Penaluna, Reading and Wonnacott.
The area's they have come from are Cornwall, Devon, Warwickshire, Isle of Man, Cumberland and Westmoreland.

Regards

Hi all,

Hello Delphinus & welcome.

Surely Delphinus is a small constellation, not an individual star ?

(Or is it both ?)

Best wishes,

Alan

A quite small constellation near Sagitta, Aquila and Aquarius I believe.
The stars in the constellation have similar names - Alpha Dephini and Beta Delphini etc

Hi
I did not know that, when my husband and I were looking for a log on name for my internet access he looked up some of the stars and found what he told me was a star named Delphinus and that it meant Dolphin which is my favourite animal/mammal.
So its his fault that I thought it was a star.

Many thanks

Not a problem,

I only know because my other half is dead mad on astronomy, (she teaches it in a school in fact).

It's different from a lot of the named constellations, because unlike many it does actually have a shape something like what it has been named :)

You do need a fairly clear sky to see it, but if you are in Devon maybe you suffer less light pollution at night than we do.

Hi
Have you looked on this site "isleofman.com" for your Isle of Mann names. I found it very helpful.

Like Alan says - don't worry :) If it helps, quite apart from Delphinus being the Dolphin constellation (and, as Alan said, it does look like a leaping dolphin unlike many of the other constellations which look like nothing at all in my view!), delphinus is the Latin for Dolphin I believe!

Hi,

Can you supply me with any info: on your Wonnacott line. My g.g.grandmother was a Wonnacott from the Devon/Cornwall border.
Cheers
Nick.
