could somebody tell me who i need to get hold of for records of marines in the second world war,my uncle was in the marines, and apparently got a medal for valour which was later revoked when he deserted.
I've tried the navy and they gave me a phone number, but i haven't had much luck so far.

It depends on the medal awarded, but you might try searching the London Gazette (http://www.londongazette.co.uk/)
