I'm a newbie|wave|

I have been researching my family tree for about 2 years now. It seems that as soon as I solve one mystery another one pops up! Most of my ancestors seem to come from Kent, but I also have some in Sussex, the Aylesbury area (probably working for the Rothchilds on their estates) and Poplar.

I want to find out more about the FEATHERBY family of Kent and Poplar, the LOVEGROVE family from around the Aylesbury area and the MORLEY family from Sussex.

Hi,

I assume you have seen this, which has quite a lot on the Aston Clinton LOVEGROVE families

http://www.lovegrove.force9.co.uk/ons/famhists/famhists.html

I notice a lot of BRACKLEYs in there. Very much another local name. A good friend of mine's mother was born a BRACKLEY. Also my great grandfathers sister married into the BRACKLEY line - I'm in contact with the wife of one of her descendants. The BRACKLEYs seem to have married everyone (!), so a connection to LOVEGROVE is no surprise. :)

I know a little about the BRACKLEYs, if your researches happen to go that way.

Alan.

Thanks for that website Alan - I have indeed found my ancestors, and proved that cousin marriage! I have been frantically adding to my family tree but have had to stop now as it is getting late and my eyes are getting tired. I've bookmarked the page and will finish adding info tomorrow.

This is a great messageboard. Before I got bogged down with this I followed a suggested link to a website in the divorce forum and found an entry on my grandfather's divorce from his first wife.

I'll be back.:D

Hello Jan55,
I have a MORLEY connection in my family, but do not know where he lives. We have only e-mailed. We are connected through my grandfather's siblings - Williams family. Can you post any details?

There are a lot of Morleys! My direct ancestors were living in Chatham, Kent in the late 19th century. I discovered that my great great grandfather and his family together with at least one of his brothers moved to Chatham between the 1871 census and the 1881 census. They came from Southwick in Sussex. They all had jobs such as blacksmith, carpenter and shipwright. From the little I know about the area I'm guessing that jobs around shipping were in decline so they moved to Chatham where the naval dockyard provided employment for most of the surrounding population.

If this sounds like it may have a connection to you I'll PM you with more specific details.
