My ggrandfather William Bracken was discharged from the army at Fort Elson Winchester on 28th August 1878 to reside in Carrick en Suir Tipperary, he had a wife and six children, would there be any passenger lists for people travelling to Ireland at that time|help||banghead|

Oh...that's a shame!!
I was just about to ask where I could find passenger lists for people moving from the UK to Ireland after 1881, having searched all over to no avail! Luckily I spotted this, so saved me the repeating the question.
I guess we are in the same boat Jeanette? Mind you, I am clutching at straws, as I don't know where the couple I'm looking for went.

Was the chap in a job which may have left a paper trail? - e.g. was he retired from the army and claiming pension?
Do you know when he died? If before partition, you might try looking for a will, which would give you an address.

I'm still on the trail of William Mannerings and wife Elizabeth!!
I can't find a sight of him (or Elizabeth) since he left the RN on 15th July 1884. I can't find either of them on the 1891 Census, or so far in deaths, between 1881 for Elizabeth and 1884 for William and the 1891 Census. There is a possibility that he called himself John (his second name) so I am going to start looking for possibilities there. Actually, I was more interested in his wife as she if the sister of my husband's grandfather, but she's just as elusive.
I did wonder if they had perhaps moved to Ireland, as one of his ships had been stationed there for a while. I also thought about emigration....but the ships lists seem to start a bit too late.
Thanks for those pointers Geoffers. I had better not hijack someone else's thread. ;)

I know where my ggrandad went and know the address they were at in 1911in Tipperary, but I dont know the names of all the children he had whilst in the army apart from the first two, I cant find a pension record either, thats why I wanted the passenger list as none of them were there in 1911, so I dont know if they all went to Ireland. But as I have found searching for my Bracken's is not easy they are all hiding
