Can anyone tell me if the medal cards now on Ancestry are the same as the ones we can buy and download at National Archives...............reason for my question is I have a number I have bought which when you download come on a page of 6 and yet the ones on Ancestry look like separate cards.............and despite being advertised even on TV are definately not complete..............none of the ones I bought are there...............hence my question are they the same??

The Medal Cards are the same. However, TNA only filmed the front of the cards, after which they planned to dispose of them. There were some objections from the genealogical community, because there was further information on the backs of many of the cards, so the cards were saved and are now in the possession of The Western Front Association.
A******y are now in the process of filming both the front and the back of the cards, however the work is not yet complete. There was some discussion on Radio Leeds about the matter this morning, when I think that Tony Robinson said that about 20% of the cards had been filmed so far.

A bit like the British Army WW1 Service Records that they are plugging over all sorts of internet advertising.
Still only surnames 'A' to 'C', so it sounds like they have done something similar for the medal cards.
If it meant they could do it any faster, I'd rather they completed one project before starting another!

Discussion on this topic in another forum confirms that so far the database is only partly complete.
The A******y images are reported to be much clearer than those from TNA, and in colour - I've seen one comment about a form printed in red, with blue writing on it.
The proportion with information on the back doesn't seem to be high, but I've seen several reports of useful family addresses - even though in one case it was the subject's bank!
