HI,

I was wondering is some kind person who had access to Frome parish registers could check a marriage for me?

According to Freereg database on the 18th February James Morgan married Harriet Hoddinott at Frome.

Would someone be able to confirm whether the James and/or Harriett had been married before?

The problem I have is that my ancestor Richard Morgan was born c. 1809-1812 (according to the 1851 census aged 41, and death in 1856 aged 44).

His marriage certificate in 1845 gives his father as James Morgan (farmer)

There is a baptism of Richard in November 1811 at Frome, son of James and Harriet Morgan.

Tracing James and Harriet forward, they had James b. 1817, bap. 1820; Eliza bap. 1820; Emma bap. 1827 all at Frome; Anna Maria bap. 1827 at Nunney; Thomas bap. 1837; Elijah bap. 1837 and Emma Sophia bap. 1845 at Frome. (all from Free Reg)

In 1841 census at Frome Family of James (50), Harriet (50), Ann (14), Thomas (7) and Elijah (4)

In 1851 census at Frome: family of James (63), Harriett (62), Thomas (16) and Elijah (14)

There doesn't appear to be another James and Harriett Morgan at Frome or Nunney, so I assume this is the family I am looking for

So I found the marriage of James Morgan to Harriett Hoddinott, which appears to be the only marriage of James Morgan at Frome.

So, to confirm the mother's maiden name, I sent off for Elijah's birth certificate - and his mother's maiden name is Waters!! So is this a different Harriet completely, or the same Harriet who maybe was born Waters and married first to a Hoddinott then second to James Morgan??

Any help appreciated!

I also sent off for the death certificate of James and Harriet Morgan.

James' death was registered in 1860 by Sarah Waters of Little Keyford, Frome.
I have followed Sarah Wa(l)ters through the census' but have failed to find how she is related to James and Harriet. Sarah appears to be a widow in 1851, but every census from 1861, she is listed as Unmarried.

Could be just a coincidence that Sarah has the name Wa(l)ters, and Harriet's maiden name was supposedly Walters

Just a quick update as i have just received the Will of James Morgan dated 1860, and one of the witnesses was Sarah Walters, so I suspect Sarah was related somehow.
