Can any one help with any details of William Brammer born in Retford, 1857, he married Ann Corner born 1858 in Newark. The family moved to the Rotherham area and I have found them on the 1881-1901 census, but nothing before this. Does any one have any information on either family. Any thing would be appreciated! By the way I am a newbie and I hope that I am doing this okay!|blush|

Do you have his birth certificate? There looks to be a possible match in the GRO index:
1857, September qtr
BRAMMER, William - East Retford - Volume 7b page 22
Do you have a marriage certificate for this chap? If so, who is his father and what is he shown as doing for a living?

he married Ann Corner born 1858 in Newark.
Have you got the marriage certificate? If not you should get it - it will give you his father's name.
Then you'll need to find his birth. Here are some possibilities-
Births Mar 1850
BRAMMER William East Retford 15 505
Births Sep 1857
BRAMMER William East Retford 7b 22
Births Mar 1859
BRAMMER William East Retford 7b 3
[Geoffers beat me to the punch. It looks as if he and I won't be arguing over this analysis!]

Hello again,
william Brammer was a miner, living in Whiston in 1891, Rotherham in 1881 and Conisbrough in 1901. Can't find any thing before that. I only know that he married Ann Corner because it is on their sons birth cert. In the 1901 census it says he was born in Worksop but on other census's it states Retford.

You really do need to find the marriage certificate.
I've copied and pasted this from FreeBMD
Marriages Jun 1879
Brammah William Rotherham 9c 676
Bramman William Rotherham 9c 676
Corner Ann Rotherham 9c 676
Nicholson Mary Rotherham 9c 676
Wright James Rotherham 9c 676
I think you'll find that's the one you want.

Tina found these
Birth of
Ann Corner
Year of Registration: 1858
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Newark
County: Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 281
Marriage all on the same page, notice the spelling of the first ends with a H not a N I think this is because the transcriber couldn't tell what it was
William Brammah 1879 Apr-May-Jun Rotherham Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding
William Bramman 1879 Apr-May-Jun Rotherham Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding
Ann Corner 1879 Apr-May-Jun Rotherham Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Yorkshire - West Riding

Ancestry has a good scan of the page and the surname shown is clearly BRANNAH. That's what's in the index - it will be interesting to hear what's on the certificate after it's been obtained.
Does anyone have any information about the Brammer family in Anston. I have George 1815/16 married to Maria Healey and that is as far back as I can get. I don't know whether they were the first ones to live there or whether they were already established in the village or where they might have arrived from. I live too far away to do a physical search and I am stuck at this point.
I would be grateful for any help.
ozzie.
