I've come across a Robert AHERN, died 13th November 1897 at sea.

"While mooring ship, an ordinary seaman named Robert Ahern fell from aloft and was killed. He was buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Smyrna. Some of his shipmates and some men of the American cruiser San Fransisco, then lying there, attended the funeral."

.. in case anyone is looking for him, poor chap. The ship was HMS Royal Oak.

This would have been the 7th "Royal Oak" which was scrapped in 1914.

The 8th "Royal Oak" and the one that was sunk at Scapa Flow in 1939 was launched in 1914.
