Slightly different this time around, all picture clues.
This competition is to win "Your Maps Online 3" supplied by "Your Old Books and Maps"
They supply through Parish Chest, and can be found here if you want a little more info about the product Clickity Click (http://www.parishchest.com/shop/index.php?cmd=showoffer&id=P18654)
Well worth a look if you want to see where all your Ancestors in the UK came from.
This competition comprises 12 pictures; the first 11 are pictures of places or towns around the UK, and you need to guess the Village/Town/City etc. Take the first letters of all 11, and these constitute a 2 word Anagram associated with our hobby of Genealogy. The final picture is the Tie Breaker and is one our member's Grandparents' marriage. We need a date DDMMYYYY;this is your best guess! Don't try researching who the person is, and searching the GRO. It is sometime between 1914 & 1918. Try and use the clues in the picture, uniform, the lady's dress. If two or more people have the picture locations and anagram correct, this will be used to decide the winner.
PM me with your answers, but please don't post questions in this thread. Competition will close 10th March 2008. Good luck and happy hunting.

The prize for this competition really is fantastic and very kindly donated to the Brit-Gen competition by David Ford. I didn't have to twist his arm, either!

I don't need a nudge - I need inspiration.:D
Don't suppose there's any chance that we can enlarge the photos somehow, please? 3 7 and 10 in particular, and if you did it for number 2, then everyone should get at least one correct answer. :D I saw the old house 'several' ;)years ago before that ugly monstrosity behind it managed to intrude.

It is possible to make something partially visible in Number 10 (Is that the answer?........Downing Street????) which may help.

What a little sugar plum you are. |hug|
Thought number 3 might be one of those, but it could also have been a big green at the seaside.
Thought I'd tried that for 7, but obviously not the correct (photo) site.
And as for number 10 - well, it probably doesn't say 'Henry' which had been my previous best guess, on the plinth!
When the quiz has ended I would love to know how people knew/found out some of the answers. One I got because I couldn't resist the Radio Times' advance notification that a certain gentleman with long dark hair would be wearing a wet suit in a TV programme last year. ( smiley for the gentleman, but  for the reason!)
Pam
Thank you Mike - that'll help me tearing my hair out over a couple of the pictures. Like Pam, I have been peering at the plinth under the horse and thought the inscription ended with a Y......and (not very helpfully) the statue was in the vicinity of a Waterstone's bookshop :o
Mind you, I could still do with some help on a couple more.......;)
Best wishes

Don't think of tearing your hair out. Think rather of letting your hair down.. that's what this lady did on her famous ride.

I'm sure an image search on Google would help. Remember this quiz is British Genealogy, so it has to be in the UK.

If you're only missing two then you should at least be able to work out which two letters they start with, as you probably have enough to solve the anagram. It's nice to know that our friends across the pond have been taking part.

Foggy, no thats the clue to Number 7, when Compo is about! :D
I'll add a few more clues next week, but we have had two people who have the picture locations and anagram correct, and one of those was from the USA. I'll say nothing about the photo date.

Have sent in my entry.
I found this competition great fun. I did not have a clue where any of the places where, did not recognise them at all and have never been to any of them.
Therefore, decided to treat it exactly as I would my search for Elizabeth Smith born in UK.
Google (Click Images) for (Hypothetical - Mrs)
Bridge in UK, Lighthouse, Market Square, Town Square, Obelisks in England, Ancient Monuments, High Street, Castle, Golf Courses, Tudor Buildings, Floods, etc etc. Just use your imagination as you study each picture.
They are all there, just like searching the index of a well known genealogy site but with much better transcriptions, (Maybe!!!).
Good Luck and may the best man/woman win;)
Snap, Mutley ;) I did recognise quite a few, but for the life of me couldn't identify the rest, so had great fun looking at images on Google........as if I needed something else to occupy me :o
Best wishes

Portugal does not believe in Political Correctness. They say it as it is.....
I thought I was being very British and careful by including both sexes so my apologies to all dawgs and others and etc-eras .....
Black ones, white ones, brown and bitsy ones, hairy and smooth ones, the little and the big (both directions), the good, the bad and the ugly and all those in-between, above and below and roundabout including the Mutts and all relatives thereof and everyone who knows me and those I know and don't know and those I have forgot to mention.
May you all have as much luck as all others. (am I covered now???):D
