I stumbled over this website today & bookmarked it straight away.

plymouth data.info

The section on Plymouth during WW2 is particularly interesting.

My mum can remember watching Plymouth burn from across in Cornwall (Quethiock) and the images left a lasting impression on her. At the same time my great-aunts were in the WRNS & were fire-watching in Plymouth.

Most interesting site Sue - thanks for the link. One of my ancestors was killed on 22nd April 1941, during the height of the bombing, whilst firefighting, so it was very useful to see the devastation.

Nostalgia! I was a baby in Plymouth when WW2 broke out and remember bits and pieces. I have just visited the above site, thanks Sue, and was tickled pink to find a piece about cycle speedway. After the war, we lived in the next street up from Foulston Avenue, St. Budeaux and we used to support the Foulston Eagles team.
