Hi all,
Searching for info on John Garty a Tailor who went to India circa 1820's and married a Francis Ethersey in Madras.

In my fibis search I found that John's "Sureties" for his Bond (to work at Fort St. George, India) were:
Edward Dumsday, Shephards Market, May Fair, Tailor.
Samuel Dodson, Peters Street, Soho, Tailor.

I read the info on this site stating that Apprenticeships can be found in the CD Archive which has now closed shop.
Is there another place to find Garty or his "Sureties" and their background?

Regards,
Maureen

All products from Archive CD Books are still available from the Parish Chest. Do you mean this CD?

Hi Bo Peep,

Many thanks for reply, yes these are the CD books I was talking about.
I understood that the person running this service had retired and closed the operation down. I had purchased a copy of the East India Register 1830 and found my ancestor John Garty in that CD.

I looked up your suggestion and it would not be of help as my ancestor would have been apprenticed circa 1828. I did a search of the Parish Chest however there appears to be no books on Tailors except for one Company.

Regards,
Maureen

I understood that the person running this service had retired and closed the operation down.

Rod Neep who started Archive CD Books has retired and his business in Gloucestershire has closed - but - he did arrange for other companies to be set up in other countries and these are still trading, so you can still obtain 'Archive CD Books' CDs via The Parish Chest (http://www.parishchest.com/).

Having purchased 'Archive CD Books' products through The Parish Chest, I can confirm that the service remains as excellent as ever and the products are the same high standard.
