In family tree maker I have:
Wife with 4 children
partner with 1 child
partner with 2 children

how can I show them in this order and not reverse as is happening.
This is because the latter is the youngest generation, but when printed off it shoves the only "Wife" to last position.
Cannot seem to find Partner instead of wife either.

HELP :o

I have a dilemna as well in that I have both natural and adopted parents for my father. I prefer that the adopted parents be the automatic default but I've found no way. While it makes sense, genetically, to progress through the naturals, my current generation of relatives is confused. I keep hoping for a box where I can choose the "preferred" parents much like you can choose the preferred spouse.

On another tree that I'm working on (which is not my family) I have an instance of a woman and her FEMALE partner. I've yet to figure out how to get around this without having to put one into the male slot.

In defense of the makers of genealogical software, it does put them in a precarious postion when anything other than a man and woman MARRY and have children, lest they suffer the wrath of the USA's morality watchguards.

Perhaps you are getting hung up on the word wife.. just put them into that slot but when it asks WHERE they were married, just fill that blank with "never legally married" and see if that won't get things in the order you'd like.

My version of FTM (2005) does not have a facility for partner. I have put them in Spouse without marriage details and not connected the children. It is not correct though.

I don't know if the newer version allows for it, it should!

I had the same problem with a divorced couple and she later remarried. Instead of sending off for divorce details I made up a divorce date and that fixed things. But when there is a death of a spouse and a remarriage that remains a troublesome area. Tribal pages does it nicely, I think, but some of the other FTM's just confuse the issue.

I think the most recent version may cover adoption and variant partnership options, but I'm not sure how they are displayed in chart form. Looking at my charts produced in FTM 2006, I don't seem to have spouses displayed in the wrong order.

Also in FTM 2006, if you go into Marriage facts (to the right of the box where you put place and date of marriage) you can go in and change the type of relationship from married to partners amongst others. You can also specify how the relationship ended ( eg. divorced).

So you can....

In 2005 there is the choice of:
Friends, Married, Other, Partners, Private, Single or Unknown.

In status of relationship there is:
Annulment, Death of one spouse, Divorce, Ongoing, Other, Private, Separation, Unknown or None.

Don't know how it prints out though.;)

At least this much is available in older versions too.

I have "Version 11", which caries a 2003 date, and has all those possibilities.

Version 10 the same as Mutley's. It appears from having a play around, that the date insert in the Meeting/Marriage field is the important factor in getting the report to be produce in chronological order.

Yes,

I can't see an obvious way around getting Burial consistenty listed after Death if you only know a month or Year.

I guess you could create a new 'fact' that was alphabetically after 'Death' - 'Interment' perhaps!

..........Or change 'Death' to 'Abended' :o
