Is it possible to view online Family announcements from local newspapers.
I have looked so far and found material up to 5 years old but am interested in 1998, can anyone advise.
Tried to contact the Globe via email but the site re this information is undergoing a refurb.

What is available depends entirely on individual publications. Family sometimes post messages in two or three local papers, so if you have no luck with one, you might try another.

I am not aware of any local history project to collate and index these notices.

I am not sure this is what you are looking for but take a peek at the Yesterday's Names (http://www.parishchest.com/shop/index.php?cmd=listlinkeditems&cat=D4038&supplier=&breadcrumb=More+Useful+Products%3ANewspapers+%26+M agazines%3AYesterday%27s+Names:Cheshire) stand.

It can vary a lot from paper to paper. The Western Morning News, West Briton & The Cornishman (all in Cornwall) have archives going back 2 or 3 years. In recent months these have been transferred to a website that appears to be run by the newspaper group that owns them.

Here in the NE the Sunderland Echos online archives only go back a month or so whilst the Newcastle Journal/Evening Chronicle have archives that go back further.

I think that looking for an announcement going back to 1998 you might be better to consider the National Newspaper Library or the RO/Library local to the newspaper in question.

This isn't online, but try contacting Wallasey Central Library in Earlston Road. They have an index in book form for BMD notices in the Wallasey News & also the paper on microfilm. I don't know what dates the index covers. You will need to Google for the contact details.
