Hi Everyone,

This is my first posting as a member of B-G Forums.

I have hit a brick wall as far as my paternal family is concerned and it's not for lack of trying for a very long time. I have exhausted every resource.

My Gt. Gt. Grandparents were Joseph ROBINSON and Susanna/h ELDRIDGE who married bet. 1827-1829, I believe, in Maidstone, Kent. They had 8 children who were baptized at All Saints in Maidstone, one of whom was my gt. grandfather. Susanna was chr in West Farleigh, Kent on 03 Aug. 1806, daughter of Richard ELDRIDGE and Jane FIRMINGER/FARMINGER of Hadlow and West Farleigh, Kent, respectively. That line has been well established. My problem lies with Joseph as I have been unable to determine where he was born. The only Joseph I can come up with is a Joseph ROBINSON born in Dover, Kent, in 1805. I am somewhat reluctant to accept this - Dover is approx. 38 miles from Maidstone.

I have Joseph and Susanna with some of their children on the 1841 census for Maidstone. Joseph's occupation is shown as PAPER MAKER and there is a "Yes" under born in county. Susanna appears on the 1851 census for Maidstone, again with her children but she was a widow by that time.

If there is anyone on the list who visits the Maidstone library from time to time who would be willing to do a look-up for me, I would be so grateful. Until I find who Joseph's parents were, further research will remain at a standstill.

I'm afraid this isn't an answer to the question but I noticed they were in Wheeler Street in 1841. You may be interested in these...

Hello Peter,

Thank you for the pictures you sent. That was very kind of you.

For the life of me, I wasn't able to figure out the name of the street in Maidstone on the 1841 census for Joseph and Susanna. The resolution on the earlier censuses sometimes makes them hard to read - especially when I'm not familiar with the areas I'm researching. So, Wheeler Street it is! How did you happen to have these? Do you have a connection to Wheeler Street?

Joseph and Susanna's last born son, Frederick, b. 18 Jan. 1848, was my gt. grandfather. He was born in Union St. Maidstone. Although names and dates are definitely a crucial part of our ancestral lines, it's the pictures and the stories of these families (if we're fortunate enough to have them) that make it all worthwhile. Thank you so much!

As for Joseph and Susanna's marriage, I will keep on trying.

Regards,
