I've recently discovered this website. It gives information from clothing to "a day in the life of", from shopping to games and pastimes and is set in 1876.
Worth a wander through it's pages.

Just finished reading a great book. "Inside the Victorian Home" by Judith Flanders. (2002)
Quite a bit of information compiled from various sources covering the household furnishings, decor, wardrobes, hygiene, medical treatments, food, cooking, new inventions, mourning.. also gives some descriptions of various occupations of the working class, both inside and outside the homes.
Mostly covers the households of the middle-income in London.

Liza Goddard has a set of four books, ranging from Elizabethan to Victorian London dealing with almost every topic of life, in all classes of people. Fascinating books and very easy to read. A lot of it would apply to living in any city I should think.

There is this one show that is on one of the history channels that the man does a show on the different time periods.. Vicotorian, elizabethan ECT. ROmans... But its all in England.BUt it shows what they ate ,, wore and differtn things of intrest. Its the neatest set of shows.. the guy is informative and its educational , everyone in Britian probably knows what I am talking about.. me being in the states .. I get stuff late. BUT the BBC web site has a awful lot of educational history .. more than I have ever seen ,,., you can take tests.. and learn how to use a census.. IT IS WORTH A LOOK they are serious about their history folks... ... I SPENT WEEKS THERE> they also have a board like here.. that is how I came here. BUT you need to check out there faimly tree and history board.. because if your doing work you can also research the town from the past into the news of the present day . SO you can get an idea of what history your ancestors town has and is it possible that you have the right place.. like if there was a big coal mining industry...where your gg parents lived and the town you have is on the sea.. no coal in this .. so the BBC history section is definatly a plce to give a look at .. its informative and educational and they ARE SERIOUS ABOUT HISTORY. thanks chris
