Hi Nigel
If this is a few, I am glad most of mine didn't marry :)
I believed you have already checked out my Clay Cross site from the names mentioned, so if you have some more information you would like from Clay Cross records, drop me a line.
Cheers

If you would care to e-mail me, or send your e-mail address by Private Message I may be able to help. I have Parish Register transcripts for Beighton, Dronfield, Norton, North Wingfield upto 1812, and information on Eckington, Norton and Beighton before 1750 from probate documents. None of the names you mention are amongst 'mine', but this part of north east Derbyshire is where many of my lines are to be found so we may meet up somewhere along the way. Do you still live in the area ?

Eileen

I see you are in Eckington - I live three miles away. Do we know each other ?

Bee,

I see you share some names with my lines: Webster; Nicholson to name but two. Mine are also from North East Derbyshire. You may be interested in checking out my site

If your searches find anything of interest, please feel free to let me know, I may have more that is not yet posted.

Best regards
Martin

I have a Betty Smedley who married Benjamin Cousins in 1792.(Eckington) She was born in Staveley in 1771. She was my 3rd great grandmother.
Her father was a John Smedley who I think was born in about 1746, but where I do not know. He gave his girls some colorful names including one named Philadelhia. I have a note that she applied for poor relief in 1821 because of a sick daughter. Implication is that she was to receive a loan of £20.
Apparently she rebuffed the idea of a loan.
I can give you chapter and verse on the Cousins family, but I would be curious to know any more information about the Smedleys.

I have been looking into family history for a short time - I find that my family name of williams was originally Williams Cadman the Cadman being dropped around the late 1800's the area they lived would have been lancashire. Can you give me any info on the Cadman you have

I don't have an Betty Smedley as part of my tree as all my earlier ones come from the Parish of Eckington which is next to the Parish of Staveley but they may be a connection. As for John Smedley, I have numerous in my tree, you may have better luck with John's wife Elizabeth .

All my Cadman's came from Eckington and Killamarsh, Derbyshire from 1799 onwards, none of mine went to Lancashire.
