OK I am assisting my grand daughter in the research of her dad's ancestors. She has all the stuff about his mother (that's me) but wants to learn about his father (my ex) I gave her the information about our marriage and divorce and now she has reached my ex's parents.
Ex F-i-L was born in Gibraltar and I have his birth certificate ( grand daughter did the ordering I did the paying LOL) which gives his mother's name and says (Gibraltarian) after her name. I just can't think how to find more about her. I have found her marriage to gg grandpa and will send for the certificate today ( I won't tell granddaughter but will let her search the indexes herself and then do a WDYTYA and produce the certificate.)
but I was wanting to find her birth and prepare the ground so that I can support my grand daughter as she searches.
So, where can I find records for non-military gibraltarians. ( I have searched the military indices)

How about this as a starting point:

That was a little frustrating because none of the links actually say "here be gibraltar info" and several of the links didn't work for me. One of them would not let me get away from the page once I had clicked it and I had to come off the internet to get away!

Hiya
I'm a Gibbo myself and suffering the same frustration as you because I'm living over in UK at the moment.
I'm afraid the only way I've found to get BMD stuff for Gib is to either phone them or go to the offices in person.
Don't expect a warm welcome either, Gibbos tend to find all this family history stuff a little odd ;)

This is very interesting because I have a GGgrandmother who was supposedly born in Gibralter and I didn't have a clue how to find her. Where do I go to look? Her name was Elizabeth Stattard born 1837. Her father Was James Stattard and mother Sarah -?. James was in the military, because in a later census he was down as a Chelsea Pensioner. Elizabeth married William robinson in Grantham Lincolnshire in 1857. Any help will be appreciated.
