Hi
I really need help with this family,I have been searching for a few years now,and I am getting nowhere.
John Ridgeway born abt 1833 in Ashbrittle Somerset,He married a Mary Edwards in Margam Wales. On the marriage cert his father is named Samuel Ridgeway.I have the 1841 census for Ashbrittle and all that part of Somerset,I have searched the Ancestry censuses, I can only find John in Margam after he married.
I have contacted Ridgeways on the message boards. So far no luck at all.
Can anyone help please

Not a brick wall yet. The parish registers are your next stop although he doesn't feature in this transcription...

It's pointless speculating about why he doesn't appear there because we don't know how complete it is and in case he might be on the PRs but not on the BTs.

Just a thought, if Samuel died between 1833 & 1841 & John's mother re-married it's possible that John would be listed under his step-father's name in the 1841 census.

In 1841 there's a John Ridgway residing in Old Cleeve, which is only 15 miles or so from Ashbrittle. Perhaps John was sent to stay with relatives? It happened a lot.
Also, I couldn't help noticing that there is a John Ridgway in Ashbrittle, b Abt 1818. Wrong age I know but could be a relative ...

I checked out the John from Old Cleeve but he marries an Ann & settles in Cardiff though it's possible that he may be a cousin.
Here are the other entries for John

The Ridgways in our tree emigrated to South Africa in the 19th century. Planted Ridgway tea.
It's a distant line for us so I'm not following it and can't help you any further.

Hi
Thank you all for your help.I phoned Ashbrittle and John is not in the Parish records ,nor is his father Samuel Ridgeway.I phoned Margam, John and his family were buried there, alas no Samuel.
Thank you once more
