I have a stray, but I'm not 100% convinced he is a stray. His name is William Vassey, he is on the 1901 census for grangetown, Yorkshire and he is living with the bennett family in 117 Vickers Street. Father is listed as John but his status is listed as Son.
Does this mean he is a stray or that he is an illigitimate child of the Head of the house, John Bennett?
If you would like to claim William Vassey, let me know! |help|

Relationships given are to the head of the family. But relationships were sometimes not recorded as they might be now. 'Son' might include 'step-son' - perhaps the head of the family had married a widow who had a son by her previous marriage? Without seeing the entry or a transcript, it's difficult to be sure.

I think this illustrates the importance on not relying on strange indexes and transcriptions!!
On the image, William is actually living at 2 Vickers Street with his mother, Jane & siblings; no father , tho' Jane is down as married and strangely William is listed first, but Jane is Head.
