Martha Stuart 1901 RG13,456,81,5

After the place of birth which is spelled Lambroke (should be Pembroke), Wales, there is another word beside it. I have looked at the before and after pages to see if the writing had "leaked" thru but no and it is all written by the same person. As I am trying to narrow down to get the birth certificate - I have the death cert.- the only b cert I can draw on is 1853 Martha Davies vol 11a p 585. I have marriage cert and father's name is William Davies, witnesses include Mary Jane Davies (whoever she is). Have not been able to find anything prior to the marriage to Edwin Baker Stuart 1878. I have enlarged the screen and can only guess it says Dyfed State as relating to place of birth.

Does anyone else care to guess?:D

It says "----- not stated". The first part looks like an abbreviation of some sort. Cty for County? Seems improbable as the County for Pembroke would be Pembroke! It wouldn't have been Dyfed at that date - Dyfed was an old name that was re-introduced with county re-organisation in 1974 and then done away with again in 1996.

I don't think the writing has anything to do with Martha's place of birth, I think it is to do with her health (see the top of column 17). Although I still cannot help you with the first word, but the last word certainly looks like state.

The 1881 very clearly says Pembrokeshire, Pembroke, so it looks as if she was born in the town of Pembroke. 1901 enumerator presumably didn't know it was a county town.

But the enumerator thought it was Lambroke - not Pembroke - and would have assumed it was just a place he'd never heard of. "Cty (county) not stated" would be a reasonable note in the circumstances.

Martha Davies married Edwin Baker Stuart 1878. I have marriage cert. Her father was a William Davies, bootmaker. It is the right cert. Edwin is my g grandfather and she is ggrandmother.
