I am looking for the first wife of WILLIAM BURCHNELL. When he remarried in 1869 to Sarah Allen the marriage certificate states he was a widower. On the 1861 census he is 20 and unmarried so he would have had to have been married and widowed in the next 9 years 1861 to 1869. I cannot find a marriage record. I have narrowed it down to one possibilities based on death records.

EMMA MARIA BURCHNELL, death recorded September 1864, Peterborough Vol 3b Page 133. Will any records state her husband's name, if there is one, and her age?

Any help would be appreciated.

The death certificate will give her age and the name of the informant, and cause of death. It won't give a husband's name unless he was the informant.

If you know the parish where she was buried the burial entry in the parish register may give her husband's name.

But if you check FreeBMD against William BURCHILL you'll find a marriage in the Dec quarter 1861 in Peterborough reg district where one of the other parties on the page is Emma Maria HYDE

Thanks David. It really was a guess on my part that it was Emma Maria and thought I wouldn't get the death certificate until I had some evidence that she was William's wife. You seem to have verified that so I will order the death certificate and perhaps the marriage certificate.

Thanks once again.
