This chap is giving me a lot of grief!
Richard Trenerry was a farmer at Rose, Perranzabuloe in 1901.
Could someone see if the 1901 lists the name of the farm (and any other info would be great!).
His wife was Elizabeth (Bessie).
They had no children to my knowledge, so I expect there will only be those two and possibly any assistants if they had any.

Many thanks,
Mark

Many thanks Sue :)
Rejerrah Downs... that may be of use :)
I have a will from Richard (who was my great grandfathers uncle) which lists various things and that says Rose, but there would be little or no difference between the locations I expect anyway!
He is one of those "elusive" chaps - despite being a farmer, he doesn't seem to appear on any of the Kellys Directories. I have lots of little unconnected bits and pieces - the will, a photo of him with other Sunday School teachers from Rose etc, but no solid location for this farm as yet!
Perhaps the Rejerrah Downs angle may provide a better result!
May thanks again Sue - you are a star!

In case it helps to pinpoint the farm Sched 82 is a farmer called Richard Rowland and Sched 85 is a farmer called Sampson Roberts.

There are two other Richard Trennery entries in Perranzabuloe if you're interested.

Richard Trenerry (b.1843 Perranzabuloe) married to Mary.
Richard Trenerry (b.1878 Perranzabuloe) son of William & Mary.

Thanks again Sue - that may well help to track the farm down. I suspect he "married into" the farm - in 1891, he was a miner, lodging with his parents. No farm holding in the family until Richard - all mining.
Typically, Rejerrah seems to fall under Newlyn East parish, rather than Perranzabuloe. To add to the fun, the census and trade directories seem to use the spelling "Rejerrow" quite often. I am pondering if Rejerrah Downs and Hendra Downs are the same place at the moment. Another branch of my family lived at Hendra Downs, which is on the Perranzabuloe side of Rejerrah....
I will probably spend an hour or two looking through the various bits and pieces I have related to Richard this evening - maybe something will jump out at me!

Cheers,
Mark

You might well find that "farm" was a bit of an overstatement. I know from my family that my gg-grandad had a small-holding near Liskeard. Consistently on certificates & censuses he is described as a farmer.

He did leave a fair sum of money by the standards of the very early 20th century (over £5000), so I suspect the farm was probably either a large smallholding or small farm. After he died, his wife received an income from the money he had saved and the £5000 was what was left to be distributed following her death 23 years later.

Mark

Edit: Perhaps the money was from the sale of the "farm"? When he died he was listed as a "retired farmer", so it is quite likely that he sold the land - if indeed it was his own land. You are making me think now Sue!
