Hi all,
I thought I had asked about this before, but apparently not according to the search function!
Jack Bramley ran a little hardware shop in Ilkeston up until his death in the 1980s.
He was somehow (sigh!) related to my wifes grandmother or, less likely, her grandfather.
If some kind person could look on the 1891 (and 1901 if possible) census(es) for John or Jack Bramley, in Ilkeston - probably with a father also called John who was the owner of a hardware store, I would be most grateful.
I am also very interested in John seniors wifes name - possibly Elizabeth or, very slight possibility, Rowena.
Any information gratefully received - and if anyone has a photo of the store... ;)
This is one of those "I wish I had written down all the details at the time..." jobs. My wife and I visited Jack a few times, taking the wifes grandmother to see her "cousin". I believe the link to be via the Taylor family - grandmothers mother was a Taylor and I suspect John Bramley senior married a Taylor - certainly there is evidence in the form of a marriage between a Bramley and a Taylor at the right sort of time...
Many thanks in advance,
Mark
