Hi there,

I am a new member of this forum, and new to genealogy, which I am already finding incredibly addictive! I live in Australia, was born in NZ and all my lineage is British, predominantly Leeds, Pontefract, Doncaster and Sheffield. At present I am following the Twigg line back from my father, and have made it to Robert Howe Twigg, b. 1799 in Doncaster. I believe his parents are Jonathan Twigg b. 1764 Sheffield, and Sarah Twigg (nee Atkinson). That's about where I have come to a screaming halt, as:

1. I'm new to this
2. I live a really long way away from England
3. I don't really have much of an idea where to find specifics
4. Did I mention I'm new? |wave|

So, I am sure I will learn a lot here, and look forward to sharing this amazing journey with you all :).

As Pam says, the first thing would be to post the question about Robert Howe Twigg in the Yorkshire section of the forum. That way, it will attract the attention of those members who tend to stick to their own areas - and often have access to information which may be useful to you.
One angle I would consider is the Howe part of the name. It was common for a middle name such as Howe (which is a common surname) to be given in recognition of someone. Occasionally, that may be a famous person - such as Powell or Redvers etc - but more commonly, it was a name connected to the family - mothers maiden name, fathers mothers maiden name etc. So that may be worth bearing in mind - there could be a Howe connection there somewhere.
