I have had no luck trying to find this event, which happened after 1881.
It concerns Richard Leeke an American who married my 2nd Gt Grand Mother Eliza Kirk in 1871.
My Gran used to tell me about how her gt gran mother left with a daughter Margaret Kirk and her new husband for Texas.
I have them in the 1881 census then they are not on later census's.
My gran mother used to refer to letters her mother recieved from her sister Margaret Kirk in the Sacramento settlement camp.
It was said they went on to Dallas, Texas.
I would like to know what route they may have taken, also how can I find anything about this settlement camp as I have failed on all counts to trace their existence.
Any help please would truly appreciated.
