In the 1841 census, Thomas Wakelin, in the town of Warwick, has the occupation of Turnkey H. C. Can anyone tell me what the H. C. would be? And what kind of work would this be?
Thank you,
Jim

Hi Jim. Most likely would be refering to a jailer/gaoler.
Don't know about the H.C bit.

Hello Jim,
I found the entry, blew it up and I think it reads KC rather than HC. So, could this be Kings Court? Okay, I know Vicki was on the throne by then... so I'm guessing really, but it still lookes like a K to me.

Thanks very much, Peter and Jan. I really appreciate that picture. Would Workhouses have Turnkeys. On the census pages I saw a workhouse in Warwick that seemed to be in the general area?
Thanks
Jim
