Can anyone tell me where WARING STREET, Leicester was or is?

My Gt. Grandfather, John George AVERN (b. Dundee 1876), is shown on the 1901 census as a Bill Poster living in this street. I think the street no longer exists, but would like to to know where it was. I have read that it was a 'rough area'??

David |banghead|David,

There's a Waring Close in Glenfields, Leicester but you've probably already come across it. Have you tried Google Maps or www.streetmap.co.uk (http://www.streetmap.co.uk)? To find Waring Street on an old map, try www.old-maps.co.uk.

FYI, according to some information on a personal family tree website, the area around 35 Waring Street was redeveloped in 1966.

Hi Trish, thanks for your reply.

You say that this St. was re developed in 1966 - would you know what the area is now please? I live in Leicestershire and would prob. know the area.

Further, you mention 35 Waring St. - my relative lived at No. 45. (1901 census)

David.

David,

Confirm Waring Street is no longer there it ran West from the Melbourne Road opposite Dale Street, Pluto Close is now approx mid Waring Street.

Hope this helps.

David.Sorry, David, I didn't explain myself well enough. I came across a reference to 35 Waring Street on someone's [not mine!] personal family tree site - see this (http://brianmcneill2.homestead.com/files/cufflins/Anstey5.htm) - which refers to the area being redeveloped in 1966. There are a couple of other sites which reference Waring Street: Memorial III (http://www.enderbyheritage.org.uk/memorial%20III%203.htm), Person Page 19 (http://www.btinternet.com/~taylor_paul/piggins-p/p19.htm).

HTH, a little,
Trish
