Hi Sweep
Welcome to the Forum. I don't know how much more information you have, but if what you've put down is it, then I suggest that you buy John Galt's Marriage Certificate. This will show, hopefully, which one he married, their ages and their Fathers' names. You should then be able to work back to the 1901 Census and get further details. Knowing the ages helps to make finding their deaths that much "easier":)
Of course you may have already done most of this, but in any case, a Sucessful New Year.

As Peter has mentioned - you need tro order a copy of the marriage certificate, if you have the General Register Office (GRO) reference, this can be done online direct from the GRO, their web-site is here (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/).

The GRO reference to their marriage is:
Dec 1912 GALT, Edward George - surname of spouse Brook or Garraway.
District - Henley. Vol 3a Page 2083

Curious as to why the bride is 'BROOK or GARRAWAY' I dug a little. I think that she previously married:

Dec 1896 GARAWAY Edward George - Bath - Vol 5c Page 1061
Dec 1896 BROOK Sarah Louise - Bath - Vol 5c Page 1061

and that this couple divorced (found on TNA's catalogue (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp))
TNA reference
J77/1045/1696 - 1911 - Appellant Sarah Louise GARRAWAY, Respondent Edward George GARRAWAY. Wife's petition for divorce.

There is a Sarah Louise BROOK whose birth is regsitered in 1875 in Bath

GRO index:
Dec 1875 BROOK Sarah Louise - Bath - Vol 5c Page 614

The 1881 census shows this same lass:
RG11/2434 f82 p6
Lyncombe and Widcombe
Henry G BROOK, hd, mar, 33, Printer Compositor, bn Weston, Som
Fanny Brook, wf, mar, 28, bn Bath
Children Ellen F aged 9, Harry G aged 6, Sarah L aged 5, Frank E aged 3, Frances J aged 11mth

The 1881 census shows an Edward G Garraway aged 10 born Brislington who may be her future husband - see RG11/2444 f6 p7. 14, Gloucester Buildings, Swainswick. He is living with parents;
George GARRAWAY, hd, mar, 30, florist, bn Swainswick
Eliza Garraway, wf, mar, 32, bn Horsley

If the 1881 census entry for Sarah is correct, then in 1891 she is living at
3, Lyndhurst Terrace, Bath, see RG12/1935 f75 p7 with parents and more siblings - and Edward G Garraway is also still with parents and a couple of siblings in Roseland Villa, Millbank, Swainswick - see RG12/1940 f29 p13

BUT - all this is assumption and guesswork - you need that marriage certificate to confirm Sarah's age and that she was a divorcee. All the above could fall apart without that first step of proof.

If you are new to research and all the above seems rather confusing, please do ask. The GRO, census references, TNA and its catalogue may be a bit much to take in all at once.

Hi Geoffers

Out of curiosity I clicked your TNA link, which took me to the search page - entered Sarah Louise GARRAWAY in the first box and hit 'search'
The result was ...

You ran a search on "Sarah Louise GARRAWAY"
There are no results within The Catalogue.
Please refine your search by clicking on the "refine search" button

Obviously I am not using the search engine on that website correctly. |blush|
I have tried searching for things on TNA in the past without much success and finally gave up using it altogether.

Could you please explain how you managed to get that divorce record result. |bowdown|

Try Sarah Louisa (not Louise) Garraway and it works. Or just put in Garraway and go through all the hits.

I use it a lot, mainly for medieval research, and it contains a wealth of information. Also good is Access 2 Archives at http://www.a2a.org.uk/ which has more recent documents

Thanks for the reminder regarding ' dont expect it to be spelt correctly' researching. I recently found my Craddock ancestors listed in an 1841 census search result as 'Cradorp'.

However I deliberately entered the name into the search space exactly as it was listed in Geoffers post -
just to see what would come back.
Either there is a trick to it that I'm not aware of
OR the dang thing just dont like ME in particular |biggrin|

Hi folks
Just to let you know that I have now received the divorce papers for Sarah and Edward thank for you help and keep up the good work that you do for all of us.

I am however hopping that someone can in the spring take pictures of my great grandfathers grave for me and that will bring a close for all of us.

I also found 1 living member still in England and he is so overwhelmed as he thought he was the last Garraway member left. We are now in close contact again if not for all of you over the last few months I would still be at a dead end.
Many thanks God bless.
:)
Love you all
