How do I find Billiards Player

How does one go about finding a Fred McNaney who on baby's birth certificate was listed as Professional Billiards Player. Have found nothing on him nor Alice Bateman who was the mother of baby Sydney Bateman born March 21, 1903 in Nottingham. Since Sydney was adopted out can't find any information if they in fact were married as on birth certificate. In a note she wrote to adoptive mother, Fred passed away before he could see baby. No other information except place of birth on birth certificate is 1 Radcliffe St. U.D. whatever that means. Alice is listed as McNaney (mother) formerly Bateman. Birth certificate is only information I have.

I found a site called Billiards and Snooker from England and the Commonwealth at www.tradgames.org.uk/games/Billiards-Snooker.htm which may help. It has other links to follow, including that for the English Amateur Billiards Association, which seems to have a library section. By the way the U.D. on the birth certificate stands for Urban District.
