Well here is the test that they used idiot test (http://www.andkon.com/arcade/puzzle/idiottest4/)
I am just dumb not a complete idiot, but just for fun, if you get to the 'do you like cookie' click no.

AARGH! Came to the computer to get away from the Christmas jigsaw - our son gave us an Impossipuzzle made up completely of identical golf balls. And now I have NOT sussed double clicking the blue button. Suddenly the golf balls seem a better use of the brain!

Now that's REALLY annoying cos I sussed that was the smallest blue circle ages ago and it didn't give me a cursor! Needs VERY careful positioning. Then it fools you with cookies only to hurl you into algebra! Bah Humbug! Thank God there's something on telly in ten minutes.

Five minutes later: OK I'm Pretty Darn Smart so I'm off!!

I made it to the end but as I say with one of the algebra problems it was a process of elimination (thank goodness for the password).

One of the hardest bits was actually the last round, the response time has to be <1 sec!!

I finally managed to get up to the Algebra stage, but as I have never done Algebra, and never been too good at maths....I got stuck. I guessed and managed to get through the first stage of it, but then got confused by all the brackets, and gave up when I guessed wrong. Oh well...I `may' have another go if I get bored sometime, but I doubt it. ;)

The brackets mean that you multiply the number outside by its contents. ie 2 (2+2) = 8 You could write it with the brackets first if that helps you 2 + 2 x 2 = 8

Thanks for your explanation Neil. I finally sussed it out, by playing around with the figures. :)

I think if I took exams now, I should probably pass with flying colours. I missed a lot of schooling through illness as a child, and my maths suffered, as I could never seem to catch up. Luckily, I learnt to read at an early age and loved English, so was able to fly ahead on other subjects. Thanks to Countdown, I can now do mental arithmetic......something I could never do before as I had to write it down.

See....I'm still learning even though I'm an OAP!! ;)

Well I got to Genius level straight away, thanks to knowing how to get past the blue button from the last time, but have now been unable to get past 'not pressing the green button'. I did something once that made it suddenly change to Press the Green Button Quick but I was obviously not quick enough. I'll just have to settle for being a Genius :D

Aha! Gave it one more go (fool that I am). You have to hover the mouse over the green button, without pressing, and watch where it says Don't Press like a hawk. The instant it changes to Press Quick you are in position to do it.

Finally finished the first one although I did enter the final password six or seven times before my arthritic right hand moved quickly enough for the final test.
