I am posting this here in the hope that those who are knowledgeable about Jewish history can offer some comment.

I have a couple of threads running in different parts of this Forum about the schooner "Charmian"

Many years ago when I first took up this quest I was in contact with a family by the name of Solomon, in London. They confirmed that their grandfather had commissioned the schooner in 1896 and it was he who gave her the name.

Now I find that she is being attributed to the Atkinson family of Northumberland. As yet I have no knowledge of their faith, but I would be curious to know from those more learned in such matters, what could possibly be behind the choice of the name "Charmian"

Thank you

Maybe the owner was a fan of Shakespeare? In Antony and Cleopatra, Charmian is an Attendant on Cleopatra and "Applies an asp" after Cleopatra has died.

Today was a good day as it brought forth the Ships Register for the "Charmian" and with it some new leads.

It also brought a link with my lost first cousin with whom I share the same Grandfather who crewed on the "Charmian"

and if that wasn't enough I receive a message which leads me to a long lost and very close friend who was my bestman back in 1972.

It may - 38C outside, I have a stinking cold and feel like ****

but today is a really good day.....
