Does anyone have any information regarding the Royal Marine Light Infantry in Toronto, Canada? Jan 1913. As Charles Hartwell Oakley is supposed to have died there re Monumental Inscription Eversholt Church

What exatly are you looking for? Eversholt Church where? If you just want information re RMIL, googling brings up pages of hits. Where did Charles Oakley die? A bit more information would be helpful.

Hi Tim,
The RMLI were not necessarily like an Army Regiment, in that small(ish) groups of them served on board some HM Ships. So he may well have been in Canada with a ship.

Thanks for your replies, Sorry for not giving enough information to start with. Charles Hartwell Oakley, Royal Marine Light Infantry, born 1877 Eversholt, Bedfordshire is commemorated on a memorial in Eversholt Church, to his brother {Edward Oakley of the Bedfordshire Regiment died WW1 1916} Charles apparently died in Toronto, Canada. On 25 Jan 1913. I must admit to thinking regiments and not ships company’s as I have been looking at another relative that was lost on the Zeeburger raid. Any advice on where to look for information on Navy movements for that period would be appreciated.
Thanks Tim O

There is a death record for him. Do you have it? He died January 24, 1913 in the Mimico Asylum where he was held for 3 years. No mention of his previous employment on the record.

Let me know if you want the record.

See the previous reply from John - also asking about RN movements for this period is possibly the wrong question, the RN had a lot of ships then and you don't know if your chap was still serving when he died.

If your chap was in the RM, have a look at the research guides on The National Archives web-site which give help as to where to locate RM service records. Look at the links prefixed Royal Marines here (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/researchguidesindex.asp#r).

Thank you both for your replies, looks like I will have to dig deeper, John if you could let me have the record, I would be grateful or if you could point me in the direction to find it.
The only info I have about him are from the census and a photo of the Monument Inscription which is where I got the RMLI and his death in Toronto. Just trying to add some flesh to the bones.
Many thanks Tim
