I am trying to find the deaths of my great grandparents, they lived in Offerton all their married life. They were Barbara Keen, born 1856 in Fife, Scotland and Thomas Keen born around 1855 in Offerton, Co.Durham. In 1901 Thomas is on his own, a widower and there is another son born 1892. So Barbara must have died between 1892 and 1901 while Thomas must have died sometime after 1901 but I can find neither death.
I have a book listing all the headstones in All Saints church Penshaw and they don't appear to be buried there though it is very possible they were buried without headstones. If anyone can offer any help - for instance where will the Church records be held and is it possible they could be buried in another Churchyard?
Any help would be well appreciated

The most likely place for the records would be Durham RO
They have an online catalogue of their holdings
http://www.durham.gov.uk/recordoffice/usp.nsf/pws/Durham+Record+Office+-+Our+Holdings+-+DRO+Database
The burials that cover the 1890s are
Ref No. EP/Pen 109
Register of burials, 24 November 1851 - 18 October 1903
(1 volume, leather half-bound)

Thank you for that Suedent, I must be doing something wrong - there just doesn't seem to be a record of Barbara Keen's death. Her husband Thomas could have lived beyond 1903 of course. She is just going to have to stay hidden until I can find time for a visit to Durham.

Personally, I'd give earnest consideration to this one -
Deaths Mar 1892
King Barbara 38 Houghton 10a 314

Hi Jan and thank you for the Happy Birthday message - I had a great day thank you went to Bruges on the Eurostar for the weekend!
Peter - that death fits my theory that Barbara died giving birth. I've tried a number of spellings but not King! Thinking about it though Keen and King sound alike.
Many thanks

Hi Peter
Just a quick update - Barbara King was my Barbara Keen. I now have her death cert. Still looking for Thomas, he's not under Keane, Keen or King so far. Many thanks for your help.
