Her name was Susannah Charity Turner. Her father is named as William Turner a bricklayers labourer and her mother was Mary Turner nee Shreeve (she used an X as a signature i assume illiterate) And the home address on the certificate is 3 Colemans buildings st clements. You asked for ideas - depends what you are after really - I suggest first trying to find the family in the 1901 census. You'll get an idea of ages (and birthplaces)of parents and any children from which you can estimate a likely period of time when the couple married.

Then go to freebmd and the GRO index to locate the reference for a marriage and order that certifiacte which should give the fathers' names and occupations of bride and groom.

With that detail you can try searching an earlier census and begin to look for the parents' birth certificates, their parents' marriage certificates and so on.

If you are after anything more specific, please ask.

part 2.......

I think your famly is shown in Catton in 1901
RG13/1833 f21 p34
Rackham Field, Catton
William TURNER, hd, mar, 40, bricklayer's labourer, bn London
Mary Turner, wf, mar, 36, bn Plumstead
Susan Turner, dau, (4?), bn Catton
Mary Turner, dau, (2?), bn Catton
Violet Turner, dau, (1?), bn Norwich

There is a question mark by the ages of the children. The census seems to show them as being 14, 12, and 11 - but - the ages column has several marks made by the clerks when analysing the census, unfortunately these marks look like a figure 1.

Circumstantial evidence to back up this interpretation of ages exists in that some children seem to be shown as teenagers of parents in their early 20's.

Also, if this is the correct entry, there should be an 1871 census showing a Mary SHREEVE aged about 6 and born in Plumstead. The 1871 census shows:

RG10/1828 f52 p19
Kiln Road, Little Plumstead
John SHREEVE, hd, mar, 39, ag.lab, bn Little Plumstead
Charlotte, wf, mar, 36, bn Salhouse
children, Edward 14 an ag.lab, Sarah 12, Emma 9, Susannah 7, Mary Ann 5, Elizabeth 2, Benjamin 1 (children all bn Little Plumstead).

The above is conjecture and assumes that Mary TURNER (nee SHREEVE) was not widowed before she married or began living with William TURNER. You may have information which negates it - do double check for yourself.

Again, IF the above is correct, there is a census entry in 1891

RG12/1516 f120 p27
Newton St.Faith's
This shows the same family from 1871, minus John SHREEVE who appears to have popped his clogs as Charlotte was then a widow; Mary is there aged 25, a domestic servant.

The downside is that I cannot find a convincing match from 1891 for a William TURNER aged 30 +/- 3 years born London - there are just too many of them. There are a couple who were bricklayers, but these cannot be positively connected. He may have been married or single then.

I am also having trouble locating a marriage for William TURNER and Mary SHREEVE before 1901 - so they may have put the horse and cart the wrong way around.

What information are you specifically trying to locate?

PS As this query specifically relates to a Norfolk family and is initially connected with Norwich, I am going to copy the whole thing over to that forum so that the SHREEVE part is more obvious to other Norfolk dumplings. You will find the copy with the title

SHREEVE, Norwich, Catton and Plumstead, here:
