Joseph GARSIDE (b 1843 Dukinfield) marries Elizabeth ELLAM 1868 in Staly (Stalybridge). She lists her father as Thomas ELLAM a 'carder'. Later census records and death certificate show Elizabeth was born 1849 in Dukinfield.
The only Elizabeth ELLAM born Dukinfield is in October 1841 to William ELLAM (b 1820) and Ellen HOWARTH but I believe this Elizabeth died 1841.
William ELLAM's father, also named William (b 1794), is in earlier 1841 census in Dukinfield with a Thomas Ellam age 15 and Maria same age rounded.
William ELLAM (1820) has a brother, Thomas ELLAM (b 1825) who marries Alice KERSHAW in 1846 but later census records do not include any children.
1851 census, records William ELLAM (1820) and wife Helen (Ellen) with daughter Maria Connor ELLAM born 1849 in Ashton under Lyne! The ELLAMS are from Warrington although William and Thomas were both born in Kidderminster.
1861 census, records William ELLAM and wife Ellen in Dukinfield with a daughter called Mary born 1844 in Dukinfield who is not on the 1851 census!
Could Maria CONNOR/Maria Connor ELLAM have changed her name to Elizabeth ELLAM and later be brought up by Thomas ELLAM although no sign of her in 1851 or 1861. |banghead|
