Is this an actual Birth Registration District in England? The birth I ran across is Victor J. Walsh, 1945 Don Valley vol 9c pg 1229. I googled the name but came up blank. GRO lists this but not the county it's in. I must be getting tired!

Hi Vanessa from Snowbound Vancouver
The secret when faced with an unknown Reg District is to check in FreeBDM and Plug in Smith or Jones or similar without the district if not listed once you have found it against a name you get the details I got the following for somebody called Smith born March 1921

The district Don Valley is in the county of West Riding of Yorkshire; information about it can be found here (http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/don%20valley.html).
However... The district Don Valley was not being used in Mar 1921 and therefore there may be an error in the GRO index or in the transcription. The district was in use from Sep 1938 to Mar 1974

Don Valley is listed among the registration districts and the relevant page contains more information about it.

Hi Peter and Ken from cold bound Alberta.

I knew I'd seen those lists before but couldn't remember where although I did find the BMD one. It just threw me off as it is the first time I'd seen it in my thousands of browsing screens! Thanks for the enlightenment.

If you think back to the horrendous floods earlier this year, it was the overflowing of the River Don that caused many of the problems in Sheffield, Doncaster and surrounding areas. That may help to place it for you.
