View Full Version : is a "b" a "d" ?

I have today received my very first will - and I am delighted, but now have a headache as trying to decipher it is a nightmare. Lots of tightly written script, no punctuation and I think that what should be a "d" is written as a "b". Would that be normal for a will dated 1875?
Plus, can anyone direct me to a website that will help me to read the document - I saw the link below, but it makes my head hurt even more! I have to say that as I have plodded along, bits get easier, but then I have a run of several words where I cannot tell at all what is being written - or even guess at what was intended to be there!

Cheers

If you can post it on a web-site we can all try to have a go for you.

If this is downloaded from TNA's site, give us the link from there.

Other than that, send me a PM and I'll let you have my e-mail address, feel free to scan it and forward it as an attachment and I'll see what I can do to help

If you don't have any webspace available, you're welcome to send it to me and I'll make it available on the web.

I've now received this will and transcribed it for 'BearPear'

Thanks Geoffers - you transcribed the will in perfect timing for my dad's birthday - the person in the will was his great-great grandfather!

It turns out that I had managed to do around 70% of it myself, but the missing words and mis-transcriptions of mine were key in understanding the full document. It had taken me nearly 2 hours of squinting to do my bit, but you had it done in record time - must have gone to specsavers!

Once again, thank you!
