|help| My Grandfather died before I was born, but my Mum said that he had always maintained that his ship had taken off the greatest number of evacuees at Gallipoli. I have a photo of him as a PO 1st Class and his cap ribbon says HMS Ribble and She was at the evacuation. However, I now have his Service Record and can't find the Ribble on it. There is another River Class Destroyer, HMS Chelmer which is both on his Record and referred to at the evacuation. Any ideas on whether records were kept of numbers taken off?

You might try The National Archives at Kew, check in class ADM53
"Admiralty, and Ministry of Defence, Navy Department: Ships' Logs "
There may be reference there to numbers evacuated.
