Hi,
I can't seem to find the marriage registration for my gr. grandparents
James Kennedy and Mary Madden or Mahoney
Married probably between 1880 - 1890 in Middlesex in the Catholic Church.
Thanks.

The only vaguely promising entry I can find is -
June qtr 1881 Poplar district vol 1c 1162.
There are 2 Marys there - neither fits your names exactly, but both are possible I suspect -
Mary Jane MAHER
Mary Ann MULLINS
The district is the right sort of area.
Perhaps others may have a bit more joy than I did.

Within that 10 year span I could only see the same entry as Mark.
I also think that there was probably more than one Catholic Church. Middlesex then, covered a large area. Try googling for Catholic Churches it may give you an idea.
Sorry

Hello Mary
There were lots of Catholic churches in Middlesex by that time, the authoritative list is Michael Gandy's Catholic Missions and Registers, 1700-1880 (see http://www.catholic-history.org.uk/cfhs/, scroll down towards the bottom of the page). Unfortunately there are few transcriptions of Catholic registers from that period (most of those by the CFHS stop by 1840) and some registers are still with the parish priest so tracking down your marriage that way will be virtually impossible unless you know the church.

If you cannot locate an event, it is quite often because an inference has been made which proves (surprisingly) inaccurate.
Could this couple have married earlier, or later - and elsewhere in the county?
Does this couple appear with family in the 1891 or 1901 census?
If so, where and when were they and any children born?
If these two are Irish, could they have married in Ireland before migrating? Or possibly once they landed in Liverpool, Wales, etc?

Perhaps they did not get married. Catholic Marriage Legislation was not changed in this country until 1908.

If you go to the link above and scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find an explanation. I have had some heated exchanges in the past over this matter and been accused of various things. I sought initial guidance from the Salford Dioceses on this subject.
